Red Maple - Acer Rubrum

Mature Size: 40-60 feet

Conditions: Sun to shade / Variety of soil types

 

The red maple is one of the first trees to change color in the Fall, showing hues varying from yellow and orange to crimson red. A durable shade tree and Fall spectacle.

 

 

 


River Birch - Betula Nigra
 

B&B, 3 gal.

Zones: 3-9

Mature Size: 45-50 feet

Conditions: Sun to shade / Variety of soil types

 

The river birch was voted 2002 Urban Tree of the Year by the Society of Municipal Arborists. While it naturally occurs in moist river bottoms, it has adapted well to drier soil conditions.

An open, broad canopy provides mixed sunlight and shade.


Red Bud - Cercis Canadensis

Zones: 4-9

Mature Size: 20-30 feet

Conditions: Sun to partial shade / Drought tolerant

 

The red bud is one of the first to usher in Spring with its rosy pink peas-sized flowers. Prefers moist, well drained soil, but will tolerate drier conditions.

 


 

Kousa Dogwood - Cornus Kousa

Zones: 5-8

Mature Size: 20-30 feet

Conditions: Sun to partial shade; well drained soil

 

Beautiful white blooms in Spring.

Dark green Summer color gives way to scarlet reds in Fall. Pinkish to red fruit.

 


 

Yashino Cherry - Prunus x yedoensis

Mature Size: 30-40 feet

Conditions: Sun to light shade; well drained soil, but tolerates clay

 

Showy white to pale pink blossoms in early Spring make this cherry a favorite. small, blackish fruit in summer attracts a variety of wildlife.

 

 


 

Cleveland Select - Pyrus calleryanna 'Chanticleer'

Zones: 5-8

Mature Size: 20-40 feet

Conditions: Sun; variety of soil types including compacted

 

Dense white flowers cover the broad round shape in Spring. Beautiful purplish red Fall colors. Rapid and uniform growth.

 


Bradford Pear - Pyrus calleryanna 'Bradford'

 

B&B, 15 gal.

Zones: 5-9

Mature Size: 20-40 feet

Conditions: Sun; very light shade

 

Showy white flowers fill the pyramid shape of the Bradford Pear in early spring. The tree is one of the last to turn in the Fall, but the deep scarlet red colors make it well worth the wait.

 


White Oak - Quercus alba 'Bradford'

Zones: 3-8

Mature Size: 60-100 feet

Conditions: Sun; prefers moist well-drained soil, but tolerates a wide range including clay.

 

Very strong moderate grower. Provides massive canopy of cooling shade when mature. Bears medium to large acorns attracting a variety of wildlife for nesting and forage.

 

 

 


Red Oak - Quercus rubra 'Bradford'

Mature Size: 60-75 feet

Conditions: Sun; well-drained soil, tolerates drought and air pollution
